Open source accounts package

Hi,

we have been running a very old but useful Quickbooks accounting package for several years but have had to upgrade to windows 7 on a new computer and now cannot install the old programme.
Is there an open source accounts package that anyone could recommend for use by a small farm/contracting business? In reality we really only use it to raise invoices and then review sales/outputs - have a part-time accounts girl who runs a proper accounts package which can then be used for in depth analysis/prep of accounts for accountant.
TIA

try Xero

its £20/month but you can probably sack the accounts girl !

Thanks - but she has the time to do it that I dont

if you use xero to raise invoices she will have nothing left to do really, it mostly does the rest for you, it will certainly reduce her hours even if you don't dispense completely

got to justify £20/m somehow

We manage to find time to raise invoices but just seem to be unable to find time to enter received payments which means the whole system falls down
Decent program just download your bank statement into it, few tick boxes most of which the program guesses from past transactions. That's it, you can then do vat, reports for various things etc.
half hour per month would do a lot of transactions.

Sure they do free trials. Ask your accountant which package they like as they will have to access it to. I tried sage 1 as well but is not near as good as Clearbooks.
