Outdoor pig arcs, Planning Permission AONB ?

Is it necessary to apply for Planning Permission to keep outdoor pigs in arcs on a field inside an AONB?
Are there any rules re stocking density per acre?
Is there a legal minimum distance the arcs have to be sited from a residential dwelling and a cross field footpath?

Dunno, but mobile poultry sheds DON'T need planning permission.

As far as I know, at the moment there are no rules.
But I do know of a few large outdoor units that are very near to houses and that has caused a lot of ill feeling with the neighbours in the houses.
Most outdoor sow herds move site every two years. The planners might get on your case if the arcs stayed put. I hear of planners in some areas getting a bit more ruthless.

Mine dont have permission, and they regularly move as the sows decide they dont like the location so shift them themselves.
I would think the stocking density would depend on how well your ground stands up to pigs - they are not gentle on the ground! I would definitely fence off any footpath as strangers and pigs do not mix, and if the sows get upset, they can turn on each other. Place the arcs with the door away from the prevailing wind, with the long side to the wind, if this makes sense, as if the wind gets inside them, they can take off (and do!). Make sure you have plenty of ventilation at the back as arcs can become sweat boxes. Personally I never go in an arc unless the pigs are occupied elsewhere as there is no escape route.

I plan any maintenance work on the arks to coincide with feed times. Pigs are very curious creatures and the odour of wellies or rubberised waterproofs is very attractive to them. They love to "help" and will carry off and hide the hammer you were about to use to knock some roofing nails into the ark with.:(

I've had hens run off with screwdrivers before whilst trying to carry out repairs:(
