Outlook 2011

For some reason when its opened up it downloads the entire webmail inbox its linked to rather than just the new messages.

Any ideas please?

had the same problem with just one computer running Outlook 2007 pulling pop3 mail. We solved it by going to office 365 for all our own domain e-mails best thing we did now have shared calenders, address books that all sync between computers, phones etc. only costs a few quid per email address per month.

Still got this issue even though its intermittent now and not every day.

Office 365 is a bit over the top as its just for one comp.

Had an issue with this on old desktop running outlook 2007, tried all sorts to rectify, iirc all I could do to stop it in the end was move mail into a new folder once read on webmail, ie out of inbox, so only new mail was downloaded.

Ok so I've spoken to BT my paid email provider and I can make the account IMAP but they were not very helpful about what the ramifications were regarding loosing emails etc if I did it. They prefer POP accounts but are aware of an issue with POP accounts and Outlook 2011 downloading copies of already downloaded emails. My outlook inbox now has 11,000 emails showing and it should only have about 1,500.

So what do I need to do in my webmail (BT) before I make the switch to IMAP to avoid loosing any of the 1500 emails in the inbox on there? Is it as simple as putting them into a new folder? but will that folder then get sucked through to Outlook when I set the BT account up in there?

Googling this is just confusing me even more so any help please ..... ?

All I can say is that it didnt with mine, mine seemed to be more complicated that my provider is virgin, but it is an original ntl world account, who was taken over with virgin, I go to virgin mail to sign in for my webmail, we have 4 addresses on that, But, only my address controls it.
So in that account I set just a "new folder" a sub folder if you like. If I read any email through my main account I move it to that folder, I am able to right click and copy mail that is read, and paste it into that new folder, doing multiple ones the same way.

If I then open out- look the only ones that come through are un read.
I have on a list with pro med to receive animal health related emails from them, I set a rule on those email to go into their own folder "pro-med" and they then do not come through to my out- look account, so it must have the same effect as doing the above. That is simple as they all come from the same pro-med address. But I could find no other way of doing it with emails from multiple and various accounts, I also went through the IMAP account and would have lost all previous emails had I not put them to disk before I did it.

I understand your frustration. I found no simpler way.

@Cowabunga may have a better solution he is pretty good with such things and explains very well.
