Outstanding Invoice

Hi i have an outstanding invoice for a late customer of mine who sadly passed away a few months ago..I was only told last week by a general conversation with another farmer much to my shock..Now without sounding bad what is the normal process for me getting paid as it is quite a large bill and he did not have any immediate family that i know of so i have no idea where to go to..any help on this please?

Do be aware, it is sadly, not uncommon for scammers to send just such invoices to executors . So do not be surprised to either for it to be ignored at first or that you get a grilling. Sadly some people also havea strange belief that debt falters at death, of courseit does not.
Of course if he has no direct offspring he may be intestate and this can complicate the issue further

Been in the same situation. I had delivered grain to a friend and he normally paid on delivery. Close to harvest I wanted to empty bins out and talked him into taking the barley and paying me once he used it. He ran a feedmill and was a great customer to the tune of 250k a year. Time passed and near Christmas he called and said come pick up a cheque. That year we went south fir Christmas and I never got to go collect. Come the new year I dropped in when passing and found his father had passed away in the Bahamas and he was there with his mother. His worker said they were short of oars so I delivered them enough to keep the mill running. Time passed and we never got together to settle the bill. later i heard from a neighbour he had passed away, thinking it was from a heart attack or similar but he had be shot during a home invasion in the Bahamas with his family all present. A terrible way to end your day. I knew his ex wife and she assured me it was all going to take time to settle everything and I had to present all the weight tickets to prove I was owed the money. It came in drips and drabs as money was released by the lawyer but I got every penny owed. An honourable man while alive and didn’t change on his death. RIP E.D It was a pleasure knowing you.

Forgot to put that I’d get a lawyer to notify the funeral home/undertaker that they need to contact the estate managers and lodge a formal claim on the estate. Distant relatives not concerned with the good name of the deceased won’t be loosing sleep if your not paid If they are standing to collect from the will.
