I went once, 32 years since, certainly ‘an interesting experience’ lots of hot air, couldn’t get motivated to go again.
I suspect the ratio of hands on farmers, to associated experts and hangers on won’t have got any better

Exactly the same here, had a ticket through Young Farmers. Had to endure one meal sat next to a FW contributor telling me how wonderful he was. I came away wondering what the point was.

Bg

I also went 30 odd years ago with Young farmers, Guy Watson and Terry Leahy were two of the speakers, a very interesting insight into two polar opposites.

Would I go again, probably not tbh

I've been to ORFC a few times and enjoyed it
Lots of good and interesting people with lots of different ideas
I've met a good number of TFF'ers there too

The Oxford Real farming Conference is now bigger than the other fringe conference which attracts much of the hype and on-line discussion

I've never quite got hooked by ORFC, it appears to be a lot of world left wing/indigenous/minority issues or maybe I'm not "getting it"? Genuine question btw.

I expect some of those that dont enjoy it are the type that dont like to be challenged on their own thinking.

I would challenge your thinking on that point!

Plenty of TFF crew seem to relish a strong debate; hence my questioning the fact that there’s not much (if any) Oxford chat on here.

I actually wonder if the world has moved on - why wait for a once a year conference when there is online debate/learning every day of the year?

Feck knows. As I said in opening post, we are still celebrating New Year on 2nd / 3rd January in this part of the world - around the day job of course - so heading to Oxford on the 4th or whatever has zero appeal.

I agree. I don’t go to these conferences anymore and I’ve de activated twitter for January conference season as it’s just unbearable.
I’ve realised that simply showing up to these things and making a show of it doesn’t actually gain you much, it’s all forgotten witching a few weeks. I’m certainly guilty of all of this. I learn more on here and watching video recordings of some of these things.
I guess you miss out on ‘networking’ and drinking in the evening. Most people are usually so hungover on the second day none of it actually goes in anyway!

Looks like quite an interesting line up. I know Liz Stockdale is going, can't remember the others offhand.
Just looked. Liz stockdale I get much better access to because niab membership, same with Tom Storr GCI membership. Fredrick Thomas will be good. Saw alistair leake recently.
I just find you go to a few of these events by different companies and you end up seeing the same presentation slightly updated. I’ve gone to so much over the last 10 years.
