Jesus!! You lot are cheap.
I have a full size Oxygen from Air Products, rental is £136/yr, and my last exchange was £64.20 +vat with all the bits included!!!
Enviromental charge, handling charge, energy charge all add up.
Seems expensive to me, but not a lot of other options round here.

I’d say that was about right, as it’s refined oxygen not just air sucked into a compressed cylinder, not sure it’s medical grade. If your not using much three months rent plus the “cheaper” cost is the same price it only works out cheap if your using two bottles a month, it’s designed for commercial volume users really, most of us struggle to use a bottle of mig gas or acetylene in a short period of time so it’s false economy, I Own my bottles and pay to have them recharged / they just swap your bottle. So no 3 year testing fees,

why is it and this is a general question they cant just have one charge ie fill up oxygen £40 why do they insist on breaking it down be like bale of straw 10 string 3 and handling charge of 50 w..t.f

Indeed, although the handling charge is the same however many bottles you have

Had a look at hobbyweld?? They do welding and cutting gases without bottle rental. You just have to pay a deposit which is expensive depending on size but is recouped if you cancel your contract when finished and its just a fixed refill/exchanged charge from there on in. Only thing is you can't swap gas types i.e. 5% argon to 15% argon without cancelling and then restarting a new contract. Not sure what oxy/acetylene is but I just got a 5% argon ultra (which is higher pressure) £190 deposit for the bottle one off and comes with a quick coupler and its £95 a refill. Same cannister with oxygen is £70 a refill. Other thing is the ultra bottles have a built in regulator.

SGS gas do 1 off payment to rent the cylinder and then a refill charge when exchange bottle.
the gas is not the expensive but it’s the rental when that adds up for low users

We use sgs Which is reasonable for oxygen 57 quid I think rings a bell but it’s alarming how quick you eat into a mid sized cylinder. but for welding gasses we bought an 20L Albee cylinder by air liquide we use propane instead of acetylene.

avoid hobby weld like the plague though as they seem cheap and cheerful but bottle pressures are very low - 115 bar vs SGS which I think are 220bar that’s a lot lot more gas and the terms in your hobby weld bottle are a scam, I gave mine to the father in law to use for his random horse shoe Art he makes being retired.
