Paint Repairs

Hi,

I'm looking to do some paint repairs on machinery, rather than full paint just some patch repairs. I plan to strip any rust down to bare metal and feather in to good paint sections. What's the process from there, etch primer, sand down, undercoat, then topcoat?

Also will be using a foam roller, not spray gun.
