How do you paint new stuff to last?

E.g. if I took off my ttactor steps for example to repaint, what do I need to get right to give me a paint job that will last?

Paint temperature? Two pack top coat....what is it? Etc.

Shotblast them first must get clean metal then couple or more coats of primer and top coat gloss for steps just normal synthetic paint eg vapormatic etc will be good wearing, two pack will chip and not wear as well on something like steps

If they are old steps that need painting I would shot blast, quick wipe with rust converter (possibly unnecessary if unpitted), acid etch prime, filler primer and I would use 2k topcoat.

About things like a bubbly rust spot on a fert spreader?
Wire brush down, mask, 2 coats primer and vap paint do the job?

I hate painting, anything new I try and get galvanised or take it to a local shed builder and put it through his paintshop - problem is the choice of colour is red oxide or red oxide.

Spoilt for choice for local powdercoaters

Get them shot blasted and then hot dipped galvanized, done for life then. My Deutz came from factory galvanized. Always looks tidy.
