As someone who has followed the politics of what is now the EU ever since the Treaty of Rome - admittedly sometimes not in great detail, I am now firmly of the opinion that the Eurocrats are beginning to panic.
This forum, and it seems others, has been joined by quite a number of people who are most certainly not interested one little bit in it being first and foremost a forum about farming - specifically an English based farming forum. This influx of newcomers who post only or mainly about Brexit began just about the time that it became apparent the EU's one sided "deal" was not going to be accepted by UK politicians and is continuing with new members right up to today. No doubt there will be more newbies tomorrow.
To me it seems rather obvious that some of these non farming people who hide behind the anonymity of not giving any information about themselves - not even a hint as to where they live, but obviously not in the UK, are planted by the EU, or it is their "job" to atempt to create dissent and make every effort to have the result of the second referendum on EU membership overturned. The first one was a decision to Remain.
Tusk's remarks today were typical of the way he has always acted and therefore no surprise. I am not too familiar with the Irishman that was alongside him, but he obviously thought it amusing, and, having seen a few things he has said in recent times, is also not surprising. I get the impression he wants to take over NI.
They are panicking because they realise that the UK is just as determinded as it ever was and will not be bullied by people in Europe of whatever nationality or political persuasion, and immaterial of whether or not they wear a uniform and have the backing of some other countries. They are panicking because they see that their "ever closer union of the peoples of Europe" is being eroded by the outsider that they eventually decided could join their club. It was their milch cow, golden goose, Santa Claus, Tooth Fairy or Easter Bunny and by deciding to leave it will stop financing their lifestyles.
Yes, I know there will be the usual "but you live in Portugal". So what. I know people within a few miles of me from several countries, Swiss, Swedish, South African, Irish, German, probably more if I think about it, and they all continue to have an interest in what happens in their own country. That is natural and good. We all live here and at least those I know do not try to tell the Portuguese what they should and should not do. Why can you not all just let the people of the UK do what a majority of those who bothered to vote on the matter decided to do? Why are you all so interested? My guess is money, and the lack of it that you will incur when the UK has left your ever closer union.
