Hi Guys

What is the best concoction you have used to penetrate
I have always sworn by Plusgas but have just run ou and I have a particularly badly rusted in set of pistons to remove

Thanks

A friend of mine used to home brew his own from acetone and ATF, never tried it myself.

Pretty much everything is better than WD40. Plusgas is good as is the Fuchs stuff.

When faced with something really stubborn, I use contact cleaner/lube which includes an acid in the solvent to really eat away the rust, but don't leave it too long or it will cause damage.

Brake fluid is also pretty good, but beware if you plan on applying heat later.

Ed's Red.
45% atf, 45% acetone & 10% brake fluid.
Started making and using it about 4 years ago and I've been using it since,
It's as good as anything out there that I've found tbh, and cheap.
The brake fluid keeps it from separating and the acetone youl get in a cosmetics shop by the ltr.

Isnt plusgas just a dear way of buying kerosine ?
Well Perhaps spice up some kero with white spirit or meths subs or somethong or maybe even acetone as above....

And then Mix it in bulk instead of the little cans that plusgas comes in

The idea of the acetone is it carries the oil with it as it wicks, its basically a solvent that's used quite a lot of the time in industry for cleaning , the likes of diesel is too dense for the job but hey if it works for some.
But if we were to be totally truthful any concoction or bought product will only go so far, the rest is a placebo I'm afraid, like when you change the oil in your car, you think it goes faster.

To be honest I do not think anything will penetrate down past the pistons. Pistons and liners are scrap anyway.
I am hoping pistons and liners will come out as one then I can split the liners and piston with slitting disc

You can buy acetone by the gallon,in the builder merchants , builders use it as cleaner when fibreglass roofing

if they're scrap, why not just get a hefty bit plate and drill 4 holes to fit the heads bolt holes, a 20mm thread in the centre, throw a bit plate on to the top of the piston then screw in a length of threaded rod and push the feckers out
