We all remember the fatty panter producers who’d never recorded a sheep printing off BASCO screen shots of tups who qualified for the Welsh Government Ram Voucher...
Yes and ironically I never sold a ram out of my pen at Builth that yr, all qualified for the grant and no Fatty panters, but then I do come from over the water.

As a buyer who spends upwards of 1000 pound on commercial tups i do not look at any numbers, Identifying a producer whos tups are still alive after 12 months is a good starter, also a tup that does not have to be stuffed to survive, next is vigour and ability to serve combined with an eye for a good sheep on the day.

Then you have feedback off deadweight sheet if you are hitting 60/70% E or U grade and lambs are plentiful the main figure for me is the £ sign

Come and see me in Builth...

How do EBV’s work if the ram is an embryo? A single lamb, born to a recip will potentially do better than one born from its natural mother? Rearing systems will also massively impact weights etc, lambs reared indoors, pushed on creep are going to have heavier 8 wk weights than those out on grass. We have looked into recording but there is little coverage for scanning down here.
Good question. Would it have to be put in as a separate management group?

Good old performance recording, it’s a fine system...

I wish you lot all the best, but recall some of the richest sheep farmers I've known consistently sit patiently all day at the mart......and very carefully buy tups with all four feet on the ground, at least one testicle.....and a bid price of less than £100.
