Permanent electric fencing

Hi guys,

I'm farming some land owned by the company I work for and I'm being faced with having to double fence every field and paddock around the yard.
Outer fences are mostly ok but going to go around the inner space of all of them with electric and trying to price this up, we use a bit of electric now using the plastic posts etc but looking for something a bit more permanent, is there a cheap-ish one other than wooden posts? looking at 500+ posts and reluctant to use wood because the stock in the pens can change so the fencing also needs to be able to be relatively easy to re-space (i.e. sheep and cows, sometimes pigs.).

VOSS electric fencing website. 3 strand copper poly wire (for conductivity), their plastic posts every 10m and wooden posts for corners/strainers. £260/km for materials.

Try the rappa steel posts. Very good.

I use fiberglass 10mm rods and cable ties. They come in 1200mm or 1500mm lengths.

Clipex posts with their clip on insulators. Very flexible and wont be damaged by cattle and will last decades

these people import the kiwi fibergrass system. more expensive than regular plastic post though

Interesting, where do you get the fibreglass rods from?

Wooden corners/intermediates with plastic insulators and plastic posts in between? Cheap and flexible but will hold up pretty well. Depends how long you are thinking it will be up.

I'm living in NZ now, I can get them at a local farming store for $3.50 1pound 75pence each

The Gold Standard for temp fence in my view. I don't have many for that reason...

Plastic posts do vary a lot in their resistance to UV degradation, but you cannot tell when grabbing a box. Completely non scientific findings is that Black last well, yellow and white/grey dont. But this could well be down the make...

Try Rutland off eBay for plastic posts. Bit cheaper than Voss and a better post I think. The plastic clip things are much more robust.

I still have some that have been in the ground 40 years! I never had the luxury of fenced fields when I started so this was the only option on a budget. Still going strong and I have 3 fencer units from them that still work!
