Not sure if it has been covered before.

Has anyone got advice, experience or know of the rules around ploughing out permanent pasture to cereals. For several reasons the customer wants it ploughing out and putting to cereals.

Is this possible if so how? It's only 7 acres Total on a 75 acre farm.

Going on memory from the last time I did some. If you have previously cultivated, applied pesticides or non organic fertiliser to the land then you are fine to go ahead and plough it up. Records can be used as evidence, or if you no longer have them, anecdotal evidence from the person who did it is acceptable. I can't remember how long back you have to go though.

If you have none of the above then you can apply for an environmental impact assessment screening decision. This basically means someone will come out and either give you the nod or require you to go through the full EIA process, if that happens it's probably the moment to admit defeat.

Have been through the screening process before and it was a doddle.

If you have been applying fertiliser, pesticides or even manure to it before (which of course you have records for), it isn't classed as permanent pasture as such. A local agronomist or advisor can do an environmental impact assessment- just indicating the species present if nothing else- IE in your case, buttercup and yorkshire fog, hence giving you justification to destroy it.

It needs to be species rich to be protected, I think it was 15/sqm. My EIA was done by natural england, I'm unsure if an agronomist can do it now, SFP they could but I think it's different under BPS.
No problem if you've sprayed herbicides, fert etc. Even if they come look it's very unlikely they'll find enough to stop you ploughing it.
Mine was grass for probably 40 years, it's now growing wheat.
