Yes, the radio isn't as powerful as a picostation, but you have the option to extend your coverage by "meshing" more units together. You only need internet connection to one.
Not sure the power difference, but the picostation punched well above it's weight! Did notice a difference in coverage when I changed to the UAP-AC-M, but not a problem.
It's plug and play if you just want one unit. If you want to take advantage of the mesh capability then unifi makes it easy.
