Hi guys,
I have reared pigs from 2 months until slaughter for a few years now I have recently put up a shed and I was hoping to diversify into breeding pigs if anyone has any tips or helpful contributions please let me know eg: what not to do what to do also what laws there are in the uk about pig farrowing and wet here you register them the same as you would somone else’s piglets the registering part is the tricky bit which I’m confused on anyway thanks very much

Temptation is to over feed your gilts, try to have them ‘fit’ but not ‘fat’ it gives a lot of problems and needless pain farrowing cos they have fat lining the birth canal. This can then result in her taking it out on the piglets.... if your not there she might kill the whole litter.
Optimum for litter size and lactation is impacted most by experience in first parity.
