Piping a ditch

I have an open ditch running alongside a hedge and close to a building. I would like to pipe it underground, it is a wet area and needs to pick up water as it goes. I would like to use a perforated pipe but am concerned that growing roots may get in and block it, what do others think?

From my knowledge of land drainage best to utilize clay land drain pipes 6" dia and a spot of gravel on top
will run forever. Not the cheapest method but best in the long term.

As @ewald says, use solid, longest lengths you can get. Then backfill with beach stones to take the surface water. If the larger area is wet, you could use perforated pipe sections to drain it into the beach.

We’ve got a 150mm drainage acting as a drain main with laterals coming in and taking in a small ditch fed from a spring. According to the maps was put in in 1983 and allways runs at about half full even in dry summers. Has been no bother but has got a pre cast guide with mesh where the ditch joins the pipe

if near a hedge use non perfereated, if not very deep use double skinned plastic, if deep just use normal drainage pipe.

you need to find out why it's wet, is there a spring, is it water running off roof?
