Don't they call them "downs plough "?
I am not sure about that Celtis man, thats not a term I am familiar with. They are a fair lump, probably around a ton and throw a furrow not far off a yard wide, probably derived from a trailed forestry plough that the crawlers would have pulled

When I was nowt but a nipper, dad bought a Ransome's Jumbo plough (3 furrow and deep furrow) to pull behind a crawler. When it started to plough the drains up it didn't get used again!

@Kidds You are probably right, but i have seen footage on you tube, where these type of ploughs are used to mix the sub base, why i dont know.
A customer of ours had one of these....
Used it to mix a poor sandy soil with heavy clay (dug out of a big reservoir) that had been 'marled' onto the surface. Made a half decent field out of some cr@p land.

Park Gate made our one derived from a forestry plough. Did you not get the one at Inverness sale?
I think yours would have been made by Clark & Son (Parkgate) Dumfries, that is the type I am after. The one at Inverness was the trailed type, but she ended up going for silly money, far too dear if I had to cut it up and modify. If you ever feel the urge to part with yours please let me know
