A lot depends on the field, easy square field that you can plough both ways fast, but if it's steep awkward shape , can take too much time. One contractor told me ,that for ploughing difficult slopes he charges by the hour, one could easily be down to half an acre an hour. 2 acres an hour avrage would realy be good going with a 4 furrow.

+1 for above.
Work out your costs for an hours work, fuel, loan, tractor depreciation, plough wearing costs, insurance and everything I forget.
I am not into contracting but I do the occasional small job with the tractor and from a rough estimate I value my hours on €40 for only the tractor(130 ish hp). Topping €50 or 55, I forgot.
I figured I could take a bit off when the job is a days work or more but then again I couldn't be to bothered about that.
I have to add I am not that bothered in taking on contracting anyway so when someone thinks it's to expensive I tell them to buy a tractor and machines themselves.
