I think face masks will be with us for a long time to come now, even after we get rid of CV19.Especially in Winter,in places like shops and supermarkets etc.Theres nothing worse than trying to avoid some fu*kwit in the supermarket aisles, obviously suffering from a very bad cold, coughing and sneezing their guts out, constantly wiping their runny nose, then picking up items of fruit or food, and replacing them because they dont like the look of it.If one good thing comes out of it,it might limit the spread of ordinary colds and flues.
I haven't took mine off since March , are we supposed to ?

Has your economy not suffered ? or has whats her face put the spin on

I don't know the numbers but I'm sure it has yes.
I think we are better off than a lot of places though and I think it's an opportunity to do some things differently.
A lot of people lost jobs but there's a huge shortage of staff in some areas, the government is hoping it will balance out and doesn't want to open the border to cheap labour again.

What about the international tourist trade?

What about the international tourist trade?

Obviously not good, but the Kiwi's can't get out either and they want their holidays and weekends away. I looked for some accommodation in Nelson over the summer holidays (January) and a lot of places are full.
Some of the tourist outfits that were ripping foreigners off might be getting their fingers burnt at the moment though.
I'm not sure backpackers spend a lot of money here either.

We're getting off topic.

11th December the US starts vaccination

That’s both incorrect (lazy journalism) and highly aspirational. The FDA are meeting on the 10th, and the experts have suggested they could be ready to ship the day after and start injecting on day two.

I’m just hoping that the FDA experts aren’t bullied into issuing an emergency authorisation against their judgement - many millions of lives could rely on them having the latitude to say no, without fear of any sanction, should they think that’s the right thing to do.

Well the FDA is hardly going to say no. What did the Man from Del Monte say. Could you just imgine the uproar!! And the UK MHRA will be the same. Has to be stock markets around the world rely on it. And of course our own dear old Billy Bunter.

Not sure what you mean - that we don’t need independent regulation or that you don’t think it will happen this time? I’d agree with the latter, but not the former.

The latter.

But at end of the day I am just a simple individual, so matters not a jot what I think. So as for most folk, you included I assume, makes no difference.

But I am conscious of the enormity of the decision resting on the shoulders of normal FDA and MHRA civil servant scientists. And that enormity, in my opinion, will affect any judgmental opinion, if a judgmental opinion is required. However, it might be a straightforward case with no conflicting data to debate.

Same goes for Covid Passports - if you look back I said somewhere in a thread months ago there would be such a thing. Though goodness knows which thread I chuntered that out. Inevitable. This is a war. The governments of the western world have managed in six months to bankrupt the western economy. So a few unintentional deaths are accepted collateral damage. Think of the service men at bikini attoll. Needs must.

I don't think they will be. The FDA seem fairly strict on these things.
They were one of the last to allow the Astra Zeneca trial to restart if I remember right? Wanting extra data to be sure.

News Headlines : Oxford University vaccine is 70% effective…… but if you take the recommended 2 dose its 90%.

Surely should read : Oxford University vaccine is 90% effective but if you don’t take the recommended dose that drops… probably a bit too positive for British press..

And it's very cheap compared to the US offerings. :)

There could be quite a lot not to like if you're in your 30s, at very minimal risk from cv19 but develop some sort of debilitating long-term effect from the vaccine.
Such as ? Where is the evidence of any long term effect . There’s risk added to many things in life . Speak to H&S inspector and I’d bet they would be to keen to let the children to work in agriculture

Copied from front page article in today's The Sunday Times.

Provided vaccines are approved by regulators, ministers expect the first injections to be made next month before being rolled out widely in the new year.

Boris Johnson urged people to continue self-isolating

Plans are also being drawn up to give “Covid passports” to those who have received the vaccination. The documents will enable them to go to work and socialise more freely than those who refuse the jab.

So how will that be implemented. How long before you friendly airline, theatre, pub and supermarket says 'no Covid paperwork, no entry'. How long before Norfolk County Council says 'no Covid Paperwork, no entry'. Other Counties are available.

Did Billy Bunter mean what he said?
