Wondering is anyone has experience using this scheme. I have a few areas on my farm that I have been thinking about adding a few ponds to as they are not usable otherwise.

Any advice or views welcome on the topic.

It is an option in the agri environment and climate scheme (AECS).
This scheme stopped taking applications a year ago and no follow on scheme has been announced yet.

I was wondering about that. It didn’t have an end date on the page. Might just wait till something else comes up.

This is a beauty that was “offered” to farmers in Durham recently!
I would love to know what each of these ponds has cost the taxpayer already. If I read it correctly, there is a net maximum of £400 available per pond !

Either way I’m in central Scotland so not much help. But I’d be happy with £3k per pond and could easily come up with 6. £18k for a weeks hire of a 14t digger. Good value if you have crappy wet bits of ground for it.

but wouldn't need planning if it was an old one needing dredging out .

ponds are good as drainage outfalls, or where water lies for a lot of the time anyway, better still if the water can be used in dry times.
Hire and self drive with yer own trailer(s) means that sort of money will cover the cost. (y) of a decent sized well situated farm pond.

Happy Ducks.

The link obviously not working above, but the above “offer” is to bid for the chance of creating a pond!!!! This cannot be a drainage outfall,it will need to be stockproof fenced, you will be instructed how to create it and the absolute maximum payment will be £400.
Crack on , fill your boots if you want to be a labourer for Natural England.I wouldn’t be surprised if the lawyers alone will have cost £400 a pond.

It is opening for another round of applications, not sure what’s covered this time tho.

i wouldn't mind the stockproof fence but i wouldnt want them to have the freedom to come walking around.
i expect we could dig a small one at home for 400 or so
but agree ,that sort of amount isnt worth claiming with restriction thats for sure

min in Scotland and like you say if it’s £400 it’s not worth filling in the paperwork let alone anything else.
