I have a wet piece of ground which we have recently purchased and am in the process of clearing. The land lends itself to a creating a large pond in the middle of the field.

How does somebody go about asking permission from the relevant bodies. What will I be able to get away with. It diesel have to be very deep as it's only for aesthetic purposes.

Have a look PCCs planning web page, you can search past applications. Type in reservoir in the type of proposal, there's a good example of what was submitted and got approved. Good luck with the project.

A crafty bugger I know of dug a pond one bank holiday weekend,he filled it with a pump from another pond,on Tuesday when he got a visit from the council he showed them the great crested newts he'd found in it :LOL::LOL:

As far as I'm aware the pond is still there.

I was reported to the EA earlier in the year for filling a pond, nothing came of it as I had been draining nearby and it had dried up.:p

Your not creating a pond your creating a surge pool to alleviate flooding. Should be automatic approval from EA and once you have that the planners can go and whistle. Planners tried to kick up a fuss with me for reinstating a dam and creating a surge pool but because I already had approval from EA they did not have a leg to stand on. EA where very good with free leaflets on pond construction and design of outfalls etc.

I am told that if you involve the planners first, they will want proper drawings showing profiles and all, which may well cost as much as digging the thing.

What happened to the millennium pond scheme? thought this was to encourage and to give financial help to those wanting to create ponds.
