Rock spikes are not expensive and are a very useful tool if the ground is hard or rocky. Just took delivery of a Protech p220+ which goes on our Merlo. Very pleased with the build quality and price but the customer service was disappointing considering all the good reviews I read. I would buy another though. Dont skimp on the size of the weight you can never have enough, our 220+ has a 370kg weight on it. Make sure what ever one you get has hydraulic slew on it.

A rockspike or not depends on your type of ground and what time of year you fence.
It's going to be used

It will be used throughout the southwest all year round, so probably answered my own question.

We have a Protech. I bought it without a rock spike but they told me I could easily retro fit the kit on at a later date if required.. haven’t needed it up to now.

Protech is a great machine
Don’t skimp and get a machine with slew and side shift, rock spike if you have stones or of your land gets solid in a dry time

which model is that.
Its mostly going to be used for knocking in posts and strainers to take 6ft wire, it certainly looks tall enough to cope.

That’s our p400s, abit high spec for a farmers machine, it has every extra available
Look at a p300 or p230
Go for 300kg weight an itl fine

As said. Look at a Protech p300s, with 300kg weight, rock spike, hydraulic front legs, it has 9 spool valves to move everything and weighs about 2 ton, needs a heavy tractor though,. that's what I've got.
