Postknockers which one to buy?

Looking at postknockers to fix onto loader/pivot steer, narrowed down to Protech or Wragg. spec for spec Wragg is cheaper. Opinions on hydraulic tilt (is it needed?) and any other advice on either machine appreciated.

Ten year old Protech 300+ here that has been upgraded to a 400kg weight about 2 years ago - running costs have been 2 ropes in that time - contracting use - no intention of changing it for a bit yet

I bought a Protech P220+ last autumn direct from them. It cost roughly £3,300 plus vat. That includes hydraulic tilt which isn’t essential but makes life a lot easier, external controls, rock spike and the larger weight. It’s a good farmers machine, not perfect but much quicker than climbing in and out of a tractor all day. Takes a bit of getting used to as you don’t have all the features of a tractor mounted machine but you can still put up tidy fences. I have a manual rock spike but a friend got Protech to build him a proper swing around one like on the tractor models so it’s well worth having a chat to them.

I bought a Wrag recently Basic XL and its very good, struggled to get any response from Protech and by the time i did i had bought the Wragg but more than happy i did

You can’t go wrong with either machine, go for hydraulic tilt if you can, worth it in my opinion

Recently bought the wrag hector for loader, it’s a standard 200kg weight, hydraulic tilt, rockspike ready and got a wire unroller put on it as well, very good and capable machine it was cheaper than the pro tech for the spec I got which was ideal as it’s mainly for on farm use and odd jobbing elsewhere

I have had a Wrag Hector - 200kg weight and side tilt - for over 10 years. I use it on a pivot steer. I don't have a lot of time for fencing - just patch and repair, but it is great for that. Fencing contractor puts up new runs.

The side tilt is essential. I move it very little but can be just enough to get the hammer vertical if the ground is a bit uneven as you approach the fence. The weight is not heavy enough to drive strainers on my ground - gravelly - but I use an auger first, and that helps.

I like my Wrag but I'm sure either one would be a boon.

had one here for about 5 years and really useful bit of kit quick and easy to pick up and slip a few posts in but good enough to do new runs too.
I have large weight hyrdraulic side tilt and rock spike.
I put side tilt on third serviceand have a long pipe to rear spool for hammer that way when pulling Into place your not on hammer control while pulling up to a post with your assistant in a vulnerable place.

Contractor we use have a wrag on a tracked dumper....great piece of kit....not sure what model it is...most direction movements on the control block

Does anyone operate the hammer from the cab... no tilt..... just a quick and easy one man knock on the other side of a ditch sort of job?

Should come next week. Helpful chap at Protech. Thanks to everybody who gave their experiences and opinions, helped make our minds up

Would it be possible to change hyd functions on the headstock with a solenoid rather than have long pipes?

Honest answer don’t know, just wanted to keep it simple. I think Moorlands idea about not touching hammer control when positioning to post is a good one. We’ve still got to work out how to pipe it to pivot steer (no rear spool) but that’s a problem for another day ?

why are they so high?

Just same mast height as the smaller tractor mounted knockers I think

looks good. Quite a short knocker though? Is that a pressure reducer you’ve got on the pipe work?
