Pot hole repair

Used Postcrete on a couple of patches on our drive, one where lorries turn sharp left in and trailer axles screw round . Looks to be wearing ok so far but early days. Use a wet mix but will need a bit longer to cure.

I think that the key to any repair using tarmac or planings is compacting it down enough. Just running over with a whacker (or roller) isn't enough, an old council worker advised to whack it until level/slightly under, sprinkle some "sauce" (diesel or thinned tar) & overfill, then whack again - keep doing until you can't get any more in & then keep whacking for a while longer. The denser you get it the longer it lasts; the other biggy is to get neat tar or sealer around the joint to stop water getting in.

I have an old tarmac road with some pretty big pot holes. I've been filling them with tar planings but in wet weather they just get squashed out again. Any good more permanent solutions other than spending £££ on digging out to 12" deep and resealing properly?

I've tried Ultracrete in a few high traffic areas where I needed a quick decent fix. So far, so good. I was thinking of using tar planings then pouring a watery Postcrete mix into it to bind it. Shutting the road for a couple of days isn't an option.
i've been repairing mine with stone 40mm and cement dust seems to work well so far putting concrete in the holes wont last as they either lift out in a large lump or make a new hole just in front or behind of repairs

I filled in the bad potholes down our lane with limestone waste/MOT1. It's packed down well now with the traffic over it. Hopefully the council will put a layer of tarmac over them to finish the job off but I'm not holding my breath. The potholes have been horrendous after this winters rain

I think tjis is key
I make good job of patch
Next hole will form uphill of patch , basically were water can sit .
Patch hole then total skim layer may be better ???
I use plainings, will not go back to limestone.
