Amistar or not???

Very knew to this but looking to no what fellow potato growers think of Amistar,we have managed to get away with not using It till now but starting to think we might need to invest in the kit or maybe it's our spray salesman convincing me:scratchhead: Is it worth the expense ? Does it do what it says on the tin!? o_O

Growing a lot more on ground that has potatoes in it every 3-4-5 years the same old people letting the ground and trying to get as much out of it!!

So problems with tubers being uneven in shape ......not nice and round also uneven in sizes ,black dot, black scurf /rhizoctonia sometimes ,

You can try half a field and see, but if the fields have been over cropped with potatoes, then I doubt amistar will help you.

It's not that cheap to add onto a planter .... £1,800 we were quoted, so trialing half a field is not cheap and getin someone with amistar kit on their planter to plant half a field ain't easy when we're all flat out.

Do you use amistar? If so what's ur thoughts ?

Have only used it on some of the crop for two or three years. Best way to try it is apply 6lt/ha sprayed onto beds after ridging up and incorporate.

What market are you growing for?

Amistar has limited affect against black dot and rhizoctonia and only delays the onset of the disease. If the soil has a high loading from growing potatoes to close in rotation, then doubtful amistar will have enough affect.

What variety are you growing?

We are growing wide range of varieties but the main ones would be
Maris piper, markies, ramous and rooster. To be fair most of the land would be on a five year cycle but a small hectarage 4 years and one lrg field that hadn't seen potatoes in 20 years ontill last year is goin into potatoes 2nd year . Rest of land is out of potatoes 10 years .

There are s/h sprayers about these days. I would do a trial with your main sprayer, do one run after destoning at 3l, and one at 6l, and see if it makes a difference.

Cheers JLM I didn't no that I could apply it via ordinary sprayer onto destoned ground thought it was only to be applied via applicator on planter !

Sounds like you're growing processing varieties. I wouldn't bother unless you're trying the get a packing sample.

Lengthening the rotation will do you more good in the long run.

Did I read that right? You're growing spuds for two consecutive years in the same field? Why? Bonkers imo
