Potato land rent 2017

Is that on a P & K replacement basis for one crop, with the farmer ploughing the land first?

£350/acre with irrigation for earlier varieties harvested in August/September. Potato farmer pays for the irrigation license and does all the paperwork. P & K crop off take is replaced with you spreading the P & K supplied by the potato farmer so you know the rates of application. Potato farmer then pays you for the spreading cost at NAAC rates as well as any other service you chose to offer him. Silly high rents mean soil indices will be depleted so settle on a fair agreement for both parties and stick to it through thick and thin.

If tenant going to be there rotating - get him to pay for volunteer destruction on land he has previously had, this will pay for some weed control and preharvest desiccation in following cereals for you and help keep on top of pcn for him

I never had that kind of offer. Whether we did much volunteer control depended on when the land was next sugar beet & whether we thought we'd get it let for tates again a few years later, always to the same bloke. Min till seemed to be the best form of control as most of the harvest losses were left on the top to rot. Ploughing guaranteed a much longer period of volunteers. Usually a good full rate dose of Starane in the following wheat controlled them pretty well.
