Just acquired this fantastic old Rapidor Manchester machine - I'm sure plenty of you have them.

Needs a few tweaks as I think the blade is supposed to lift at the end of a cut. But its a nice quiet way to cut steel if your not in a rush.

Not sure how old it is, other than pre 1970 - older than me

Just watching a video (always a last resort) and it's supposed to stop not lift....hmmm will have to figure out why that feature isn't working.

It kicks the level out that you push down to start it cutting. The stop and pin near the oil damper trigger it

If you want another one for spares we were going to out ours as it doesn't cut quite straight anymore, probably just worn though use.

Dads mate got mine in the sixties out of ici as they were chucking all the old tooling out, cost the princely sum of 2shillings, ( 10 pence to all you children )
you can shim and adjust the blade to make it cut square and true.

I have one in the shed I haven't used for 15 years, it did used to shut off when it cut through.

normally that is the blade not tight enough

Or an old blade blunt on one side

Will check tension, and order a new blade - who knows what use the old one has had.

Tensioned the blade and now it cuts near enough vertical.

Have 2 new bades for it - one 10tpi and a 14tpi - will be interesting to see if that makes the cut perfect. Having a day where we are not going down to the farm so I cant check!

Just seen this thread I’ve had one for donkeys years three-phase when I got it haven’t got 3ph here so just put another motor on it and switch it off when it’s cut through.

Mines single phase, probably been converted somewhere in its 50+ year lifespan.

You can get a single phase converter for 3 phase machinery, I'm not sure how expensive that is though. We are lucky enough to have 3 phase in the workshop, but I don't currently have any equipment that uses it.

Be interesting to get an electrical cut-off for when its finished if your not in the room, although its probably a bad idea to leave it alone!
