Pre 1999 Discovery’s

Do many other farmers still use their tdi Land Rover discovery’s as workhorses? Been welding ours up all week and can’t help but think although they have there issues they are fantastic trucks, ours has 230k on the clock and hasn’t really ever needed much

Had a 1989 V8 (great sound & oomph but hit the wallet at fuel stations) then a 200 TDi (good torque) about 20 years ago and both gave a decent ride but could be a bit wayward in the corners.
Reckon the 200 TDi would be a good workhorse now, but things tended to fail even when it was 4 years old. Heck of a lot comfier than a Defender though! Wouldn't want a Series 2 with the notorious air suspension....

Got a 200tdi Disco 1 as a quad as well, does the job! 2 x Disco 3's as well.

Currently doing the rear body crossmember and floor on the 300tdi hell of a job but will be good in the end, nothing new will ever come close to these things I’m sure

Got two old Disco 1s on limited use for the farm. Brilliant old things, just as good as the grossly over rated Land Rover, at a fraction of the price and ten times more comfortable. Will go almost anywhere in comfort with the right tyres.
If they still made the Disco One or Twos I would have one for the road as well. Why on earth people pay silly money for old Land Rovers is beyond me when you can get Discos for a quarter of the price.

300tdi was the best engine Land Rover ever made. Brother has one of the last Disco 1s and it's still going strong.

I have one of the first disco 2 been a good truck, bought it at 70k, the previous owner had replaced the head after the plastic locating dowels melted and the head warped, other than one injector loom, and servicing, not needed anything.
Its on sorn now as mum felt it was too big and heavy for her. Needs some new king pins and some welding on the chassis.
My old 300tdi i went to get ot ready for an mot, looked under the carpet in the rear, and the inner wheelarches had dissapeared, so it was time to get rid. Id have a td5 over a 300tdi anyday.

I had a Td5 disco 2 a few years back which must have had a warped head as it overheated on me when it ran low on water because of a tiny hole in one of the pipes at the back of the engine. It was a good vehicle up until that far more reliable than the Disco 3 which replaced it.

We have had 3 up to now on limited mileage, a m reg auto first then a n reg manual and currently a s reg manual.
I love them, you can ride round anywhere and you don't have to worry where you park it, if it was a similar age defender it would go missing.
Got my name on a very rare 3 door V reg 300 tdi, when the owner parts with it, but I might do that up to keep for some sentimental reason.
And tonight I've more or less done a deal on a 02 reg td5 commercial.
I'm an addict.

Erspasher i tink , or symular spelling.
Cab heater / engine pre warmer ?
Had a ex bt tranny , that had one fitted.
Burns fuel in a boiler to warm the coolant system at a set time ,ie in the morning, warm cab engine, in am with cab blowers , blowing, .
Theys prob a bit of stainless exhaust sticking out somewhere, follow it back to a boiler.
Useful in winter.
