Not really no they are more designed for use in running sand etc

@Warp Land Farmer It really depends on your soil type. It is suggested by the manufacture of the geotextile sleeves that by using the sleeve it negates the use of granular backfill, however, water will always take the course of least resistance and if you have a clay/heavy soil type then I personally would suggest using a granular backfill. The geotextile wrap bridges the corrugations in the land drain pipe, creating a larger surface area and the material acts as a wick, drawing the water into the pipe. So it is claimed that the wrap not only prevents the ingress of solids, it also increases the performance of the drainage.
