Price of hay

Been selling small bale with plenty in at £4 for last 10 years not much but to regular customers. Price the same this year to them as i want them to come back another year!!!. Seen some silly prices but everybody has got to live

You said they were “good big bales”. I was just asking that surely a 4x4 is 4ft. For my wrapped bales for eg, I make them 1.5m (5ft), I would call those 5x4 but maybe that is what you would call a big 4x4?
Give me a minty I'll go get my tape out and check and get strait back to u with an accurate measurement , when I say good big 4x4 I mean they are a decent 4ft bale not 3 and a half foot baled for selling shite that u see folk charging the earth for

Fair enough. I have a vario baler and wouldn’t do hay in anything other than 6ft for ourselves. As I say we have to drop to 5 ft to wrap them. But then I bale for a few neighbours and some want this size, others want that size , so maybe it makes me a bit anal about bale size:scratchhead:

By the way, I always think of this when I see you posting:)

Better to feed straw and cake then
You may well be right. However, what I have found with in-lamb ewes is that if the forage part of the ration is good, they are much less likely to succumb to twin lamb disease

You really need to be at £5 minimum this year, it’s not unreasonable and you are not robbing regular customers at that price. I have been at £4 for several years but this year it’s £5 and nobody bats an eyelid, they are just happy to be able to ge it.

I know it’s entirely your own business what you choose to charge, but believe me £5 is cheap this year.

Currently selling for £25 per bale. Going up to £35 next week to slow down sales. Will be out before Christmas otherwise.

Reminds me of marquee dances.
