PROBLEM WITH STARTING ON THWAITES DUMPER

Hi everyone,

I have a problem with starting on a Thwaites Alldrive 5 ton dumper. Turned the key & gives the symptoms of a flat battery (starter motor tries to turn over slightly, but not enough to fire engine). Battery changed for new one, but still no good. Removed battery leads & cleaned terminals & remade earth connection to chassis - still no good. Thought it must be the starter motor, so changed that for a new one, but still no good. Wondering where to look next ? Perhaps I should have changed the battery leads, they appear okay, but there could be a major break under the pvc insulation I guess. Obviously we are losing battery power somewhere, that should be going to the starter motor. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this machine ? It's a 1997 model, with the Perkins Phaser AA series engine. Any thoughts or help much appreciated.

As above and if it's not that, have you tried a direct contact from the battery positive on the starter solenoid to the small energiser terminal? ie bypassing the key switch.Making sure it's out of gear of course!

Hi
My barford dumper had a earth wire from engine to chassis that had broken, repaired it, made a big difference

Watch out for corrosion on the inside of terminals where either the live or earths are actually crimped. Will give the same symptoms as a corroded terminal. If you have a multimeter, some simple voltage drop tests will identify the issue easily. If you haven’t done a voltage drop test defore, drop a message through the website www.cotswoldperformance.com with a contact phone number and I’ll talk you through it, takes 5 minutes

I have a thwaites 1 ton dumper. I started it yesterday and left it ticking over. Suddenly it cut out and all the ignition lights were out and absolutely no sign of life ... I am guessing a fuse ...I checked the one by the red key but that was fine... any ideas anyone ?? Where are the other fuses located?

Have you taken any land out of production from last autumn?
