I know of someone by the coast who was approached by some villagers whereby he guarantees not to plant trees or maze in front of the new developed houses behind. His agreement is renewable every five years.
Does this happen anywhere else?

Know of someone paid a lot of money by a very rich person not to put a marina in on a canal near them.

Could be a bit of a grey area regarding blackmail... "pay me some money or I'll stick all these bales/IBCs in front of your house...

In this case the farmer was approached by villagers, not the other way round..
