The steps will fold up I'm sure.
Just re-read some of this thread from it's origins. Cripes it makes for some reading. Looking back you can see Pete must have made a monumental effort to bring this plan to fruition. Talk about skills but also some serious personal resolve. Fair play to him and the companies/personalities that helped make it a reality.
Most years the saddle backs would be putting muck out almost 365 days a year though?
The fact @Cab-over Pete never went from big A to terragator makes me think they aren't good. In all honesty I don't have a clue how good or bad any of them are.
I do know Claas cover major failures on older Xerions that have been dealer serviced from new.
I always wonder where these specialised machines end up when there done?
When that forward control spreader is 20 years old who is really going to want it? Same with self propelled sprayers.
There going to be bought initially by a specialist contractor doing a high workload. Flogged to death for 5 years, then sold on.
At least with your Mercedes Pete, there will be longer term reliability hopefully.
I was told by several Terra Gator owners who had previously run Big A that they TG was to be avoided. Too big, too complicated, too unreliable and too expensive to repair.
Whilst I took that advice on board, I made a huge mistake buying the Xerion. Right from the outset I can only praise Claas Western, their service department were faultless and very reliable. But the money I spent on fuel and repairs for that machine nearly broke my resolve.
My original plan after the Multistrife was a Zetros, but as is still the case, I thought the wheels were too small. So I went for the big tyre equipment on the Xerion.
So here we are with the Zetros, which I do really like. The tyres are still too small, but I’m doing what I can by having a new set of bigger duals made up. And if the ground is very tender I always have the Big A, which I will never sell, so I’m well equipped now.
Top, bottom, middle and both ends of the whole story is this….. there will never be anything better for my job in my area than the Big A. It runs on fresh air, is incredibly reliable, fast and efficient, nice to drive, cheap for parts and still get’s people talking.
But she won’t last forever if I used it as a frontline machine, so the Zetros can take most of the punishment and the Big A can just do what’s required.
In the last two years I think she’s clocked about 350 hrs or something like that, so should last a good few years at that rate. I have a load of parts and some good people around the country who have more parts. We try and help each other out when there’s any bother so it’s all good.
I do like the Zetros and so far it’s been great. I’m still fine tuning and once I’ve got the new undergear fitted I think she will be about as good as she can be. I’ve then got plans to modify and improve the spinning disc equipment, so there’s always something!!
Next thing is, my lad will be home and I expect I’ve got it all completely wrong!
Where did spreader discs sit? There was very little to fault it on the lime as regards actually doing the job. It was very capable.
It was just horrendously unreliable and hugely expensive to repair. And once you get the hate for something it’s hard to find the love again.
You beat me to posting it! Looking a bit rusty sadly
Affa wee tank though, be a lot of running about. Umbilical would be my preferred optionWe've a 4200 Xerion here with kwaeco saddleback tank here putting on Digestate at the moment. In my opinion there amazing machines. Obviously not suited to Lime, but as a tanker fantastic.
It weighs 40t full, but hardly marks the ground.
Guess at 500k it would have to impress!
