Electrical for me. Heinegar would be my first choice but you're talking about a lot of money http://georgemudgeshearing.co.uk/product.php?catname=Shearing Machines&subcatname=Heiniger. have a look at the Lister Nexus with a flexible drive which is a cheaper option http://georgemudgeshearing.co.uk/product.php?id=34 . Lister Nova is less money again http://georgemudgeshearing.co.uk/product.php?id=43 Is there a chance that you will be able to shear sheep for other farmers? If it is just the 500 sheep, the Nova should be ok. If you can get to shear for other farmers, you may want to get a more expensive machine.

I want to buy 2 machines. Is 2 machines ok for me or 1 machine enough for me? How long time needs for shearing 500 sheep by one machine? Or how long time for shearing one sheep?
I only use for my own sheep not for other farmers.
Thanks.

A Heinger or Lister shears are the 2 most common shearing machines on the market. If you are shearing on your own and have experience it could take between 2 to 3 days to do the job. Depending on your set up, who will be helping and if the sheep are near by.

One fairly basic machine should be fine for 500 sheep if you have never shorn before it could take you over a week to shear them all. Can you not buy a machine where you are? Postage could be a killer for you.

Lister nexus or heiniger evo will be the best and will do you for life solid drive and shear to correct pattern why stop with your own 500 start to do the neighbours build up a custom based and you'll have the price of your machine back in no time

I would recommend - http://www.hornershearing.com

Try a longhorn 12 v. Runs for hours on a 12v battery, no chance of any electrical accidents either.
Family run company, great parts back up, advice, and good £$ as well.(y)

Depending on your local electricity supply voltage and reliability a 12volt machine may well be more convenient.

Easy to shear the sheep where they are in a pen with machine plugged into a vehicle.

Biggest problem will be not having the equipment to sharpen the blades which fit on the machine handpiece.

You will find even new blades will need a quick sharpen as they warp slightly over time.
