Protecting shed pillars

Morning, as per title.....

Got a 'proper' shed going up at last, to complement my assortment of telegraph pole, and ex Ww2 cast offs,
Couldn't stretch to galvanising, just to protect bottom 3 ft from the bullsh#t that emanates round here, so five pillars are gonna need protecting.

We painted some in 1993 with 'old fashioned bitumen paint'......they're still still sound, post war steel and 'toxic carcinogenic gloop' have resisted all attack.

However, I've not a great deal of faith in todays imported steel and these modern water based blah blah.....

Any ideas ???

I've got as far as Tec screwing some plastic facia board to encase girder, ( can concrete bottoms in with final finish.)
Thowd fella reckons block em up, that might resist cowsh#, but it wouldn't resist a gawp on a telehandler!
D'y know, even bloody great building pillars can suddenly 'jump out and clobber' unsuspecting, gormless coo farmers!

All suggestions gratefully received.

Ps.
Pillars are 533 x 210 so decent lumps to work with.
(And I've got a pile of ex roofer facia off cuts, but would stretch to new for a 'proper' job!)

bitumen the legs from under Floor level to about 1m.

with that size steel if you don't bounce off, you're hitting them at F1 speeds!

create a layout that is easy to access so you're not constantly turning tightly in and out of obstacles, will reduce wear on machinery and floors considerably and increase cycle times. just spent half a day moving straw snaking around some posts because im too lazy to move a few loads of tarmac planeings.

Doesn't get more basic than this. Old oil drums dug into the floor, bit of rebar drilled into the floor and filled with concrete.

Concrete crash barriers one end in vertically round pillars? Weld / bolt tops to top of pillars via a batten to give a bit of give / flex / warning if an idiot on a telehandler clobbers them?

Hope your keeping well mon. It’s not just here that buildings jump out and clobber telehandlers
Dunno 'bout well, but still ere thx. Bonce full of Botox now, I can't even bloody scowl anymore[emoji34] [emoji34]

Been thinking/asking all afternoon of anyone that'll talk to me, general consensus is slather it in bitumen, and run concrete up as far as they can.

Box it in and pour a concrete column, but did I mention might need to hang a gate or three off em........

Still, I like your crash barrier idea....

It's a real bugger when you can't judge how to fit a 7'6 manitou between two buildings 14ft apart!
(I kid you not)
At least we've got twice as many coos.......
Twice as many bales.......
Etc.....

Twice as many building pillars to hit.....
(You get the gist!!)

Strange thing is ,come 'flight time' and I can nail ducks/ geese as good as ever!

Just aim at the middle one [emoji2] [emoji2] [emoji2]

Was surprised to read that for the steel in contact with dung that even the galvanizers recommend bitumen!
Reason why bitumen suggested to cover galv. is that zinc is corroded by acid (urine) so the bitumen ( which is one of few coatings that can be applied thickly and remains soft) provides a protective barrier between urine and galv coating.....simple really!

Thanks all,

This is where we're up to ,with a surprisingly small amount of arguing,( I think the fact that when I pointed out if it lasts 25 years, I'll be his age.......
and at if I get to 78 I'm not gonna be that arsed about plating 6 pillar bottoms)......

Dr A's crash barrier idea, two will concrete in side by side along 'deep side' of web at last pour, ikwim, then form perfect shuttering / anti farmer protection, and if we think it out well enough, can combine some m20 studding through to both clamp barriers, and hang gates off.

Slather only exposed steel with bituminous paint only (210mm exposed) ........

Roberts' your uncle!

Only one question remains. .....

Are all bitumen paints the same???

Flea bay 2quid a litre stuff good enough???

Tia.
