pto gearbox

Me again...
Im revamping the PTO pressure washer.
Id like to reduce the PTO speed so either pulleys or a small gearbox.
I prefer a gearbox as there are no wearing parts (aeas for rubbish to get in and spoil the belts) Having a look online and the usual suspects only seem to supply gearboxes for driving "group 2/3" hydraulic pumps.
I need 540 shaft in, and either male or femal 540 shaft out.

Does anyone know if such things as a reasonable cost?
thanks

Screenshot_20200529-194556_Samsung Internet.jpgHave a look at the various comer gearboxes on Kramp's website..might give you an idea...speed reducing? Not increasing? That one in the photo is compact but £500!

If you look at your pump more than likely you will find the 540 splines are splined or bolted onto the pump shaft ( bolt up the centre on mine ) remove and you will be left most likely with a keyed shaft which may make your quest easier

Can you use a 90 degree gearbox? I think you'll have more joy finding a used one like that with speed increase

When I built my pto power washer, I bought a gearbox direct from cormer, they were helpful, but slow. They had to build one as they don't sell many.
Mine however is a tee gearbox as I have two pumps mounted on sliding motor plates so I can disengage either pump. Runs at just over tickover giving 1450rpm out.

You can get a pto sleeve that converts to keyed shaft, that may increase your options.

You say you don’t want belts etc but you’re easiest and cheap route would be an old disc mower headstock with the belts and pulleys already in place. You could always cut it up and move pulleys closer together and use shorter belts, pulleys can be virtually touching as long as you can tension the belts, somethingekse already in place on tge large drive pulley.

Iirc the front gearbox on an old reekie destoner is a tee box set up with straight through drive and a slower speed off the side.

We once tried one to another part of machine inputing the single shaft with output on both sides of tee. It drove the outputs faster.

I will have a look un my spares pile to see if i still have one.

thanks for that. when you said it, it was obvious!
Ive had a look and the splined PTO shaft is held in with a cap head down the centre.
Removed that and it is a 24mm diameter shaft with an 8mm key down it.

So, does anyone know where i can get a gearbox to go on this shaft, with an increase ration of between 3.5:1 and 4:1
ive looked on flowfit, and they are all speed reducing gearboxes with 25mm shaft. Can these be driven backwards?

thank you

No probs driving a gearbox backwards that I can see, would a coupling and a hyd motor suit you better. Other option is look at Landy power washers website they supply a gearbox for there washers

so, i think ive found a suitable gearbox. a bit oversize, needs a spacer bush, but the right ratio.
However, it turns in reverse. For a power washer, which is turning a crank shaft am i right in assuming that the direction of rotation doesnt matter?
thanks
ps, also found these - not got a price on one yet
