PTO guard rant

Why can’t anyone look after guards.
Real tidy mower just come in.
Both guards been missing for years. Grass wrapped round the shafts and gotten inside the gearboxes.
Chains not been clipped on and sound round wrecking the paint.
Everyone moans that machinery is too expensive yet some can’t be bothered to do the simple stuff to look after it.

I know you’re joking but that’s the attitude.
However clipping a chain on properly and a bit of grease doesn’t cost anything.
And even the cost of a new guard will be greatly offset by not devaluing the machine by a good few hundred ££

sadly it involves getting out of the seat and getting your hands dirty which some dont seem keen on doing. to easy to press autosteer and sit on their phone all day.

Not unlike combines costing mega 000s left where they finished last field.
Know of one ,newish it was parked up at edge of last field at harvest and there it still sits. Clearly money to burn

Just had our baler serviced and it needed a new guard, so had it done. £145 . My friendly mechanic had a proper rant about the cost of something that could save a life and doesn't get done on farms because of the inflated cost !!! He felt perhaps HSE or someone should subsidise cost ........

plus 2 gearboxes to strip, re bearings and re seal.

these guards pretty good to be fair. only 2 minutes pull the clip out, pull guard back, grease ,push back on reclip

Yes. Not dissimilar to bareco. First time I’ve fitted them and very impressed

Bonkers but happens a lot, I needed the top of a tap a few months ago, it was £19 for one, complete tap exactly the same was £10 for a pair

Yes and no. If you compare apple’s with apples then no. The complete shafts are often of poorer quality but will do a job in most cases

When it was for a PTO saw bench I took the view it wasn't exactly going to have a lot of torque through it

Those cheap Sparex etc shafts are mainly cheap Chinese crap.

I had this exact conversation earlier it’s a disgrace the price on them

It's not that hard to look after them and get a decent life out of them. Anything I operated that I had from new and didn't have a numpty also using it, lasted well.
There's a lot of people operating kit who really shouldn't be.

They are sparex gardloc. Should be available most places
