Here’s what my trial looks like. The pods are black but soft, & there’s still a lot of green foliage, but the beans are hard. don’t know moisture but suspect it’s close-ish to harvest. What are the views on desiccation? One thing that worries me is the clover understory. Will that interfere with harvest? Anyone have any experience? Mustn’t forget to take the grab sample…

The worst ever Winter Bean Harvest I have ever known.
Might average just under 1 tonne/ha

Plenty on pods, but absolutely nothing in them!
Beans always were the ‘Wish you’ crop and this year it is ‘wish you hadn’t bothered’ year.

Did you notice any differences throughout the season comparing this field to the bean field that did not have the clover understory?

Hi Erin. Sorry for delay. Here’s a shot of the other crop. It was sprayed off last week & we’re due to harvest shortly tbh I don’t have high hopes…

Took the grab samples today & really very depressed at the state of this crop. It is growing in patches. I hope it will make more of a contribution to the next crop than it will offer up as a crop itself. Hopefully we’ll be able to measure that.
