Think im going to give the Same a miss just because after reading the data sheet for it it seems to be roughly the same weight as our 255, not heavy enough for our hedge cutter.

So im back to the Case 5140, nice tractor but im not sure £1000 is enough to get it sorted.

I will just use it until the problem gets to bad, anyone have experience with the 5130/5140 maxxum ?

but it's got a loader on the front for wt?....with the change you could buy a slightly lighter hedgecutter.....if that tractor is as straight as it looks it could be a decent buy:)

loader would be handy but i have quite a low budget as mentioned so maybe i will go for a better tractor and worry about the loader later

Some of the Case lads will hopefully see this, if not post again looking for help.
I think there is a priority valve might be stuck, that's in an ideal world ...........

By continuing to use it until the problems get worse you will probably end up with twice as big a repair bill

Looks like we are both chasing similar machines around a similar area with a similar budget, only thing is we don't need a loader and most seem to have one fitted

Do you need 4wd? How heavy big will you need for the cutter?

Is that a JJ Morris sale sticker? From a genuine farm sale, or something dumped in Whitland? Finding a cheap tractor is difficult, totally unlike cars. Genuine farm sale would be the best bet, but not many in our area any more!

Old Antares can be a nightmare. It has a three speed powershift that is prone to have solenoids stick and engage two ratios at once with potentially catastrophic consequences. The gearbox is very lightly built and synchros can be prone to wear. It is an old tractor but spares will be as expensive as any newish tractor.

However, a good one is really quite advanced with superb performance and economy. It has a four speed PTO for instance, and brakes in the front axle.
Best idea is to get in touch with previous owner or owners to see what the history of the tractor is and in what condition it was sold. Whether there are any known major issues with it.
Make sure it has its registration document, which is absolutely essential if it is to do road work. Getting a duplicate is a cumbersome process and an expensive one too.

On face value that doesn't look to have come from the most sympathetic of homes but then ~£5k is very little in 4wd tractor terms!

If I recall correctly the 110's typically gave relatively less transmission trouble than the 130's, the turbo or the latter made for a very different animal.

The Mk1 Antares six cylinders were much of a muchness and none of their potential known issues can be accounted for by their power output. The AntaresII are a far better bet.
I once had a lucky escape where a farmer rejected a ridiculously generous part exchange deal that I offered, only for the three speed powershift to grenade six months later, plus the synchros, a leaky oil cooler plus it needed a new clutch by then. Even eight years ago the repair bill was over £10,000 plus VAT. About £2k more than the tractor was truly worth.

Should be simple enough to do, if one pack still has full pressure, dont let another select?
Pressure switch on the test points, would do the trick?

No never say one, not many about these parts.
