Quad Bike Running Costs

I know 2 farms with over 500 ewes and no dogs 🙈 the few times ive been without the dogs while doing something else and then decided I’d open a gate for the ewes to run out and they won’t budge so have had to drive back to get the dogs and the sheep run straight through, fair enough in 30 acre fields but when you can’t get ewes out of 3 acre fields without dogs it’s painful.

Since having the huntaway she’s revolutionised the job, she barks from ontop of the quad or does an outrun with the collies and moves all of the sheep instantly into 1 big group, ewes running from bushes/gorse/hidden areas and the collies have far less to do and are definitely less worn out.

Average service costs £3-500 here per bike but that does include £50 collection fee and usually usually a few things need doing every time they go in

Does the yapping not get on your wick? .. was thinking of getting a second dog next year too train for pen work as mine is more of a pain in the arse than a help in pens and everyone says huntaways are the dogs too have for pen work but all that yapping will drive me mad I think

The "quiet" command is the most important one.

The only thing I taught mine was quiet, everything else she’s learnt off the collies.
It’s deafening at times like if on a lorry or in an enclosed space but most of the time she’s 30+ metres away.

I think you need a fair few sheep (or work anyways) to keep a Huntaway happy. I know someone that makes his run half a mile from house to farm with a leg tucked in his collar, or he’s unworkable. They’re big, active dogs and don’t switch off like a collie.
Fantastic watching sheep move when they start with their deep, powerful barking though.

I couldn’t have one here either, without it going nuts. I’ll stick with my 3 collies.👍 I can’t fit any more on the quad....
3 collies and the huntaway here, plus can sometimes squeeze someone on the side too.
Huntaway does stand on the fuel tank/seat though with me ducking under her 😂

I find my huntaway mixes much more chilled than pure collies. Some collies, especially highly bred ISDS ones seem to lack an “off switch”.

Can any one tell me how to remove the service message off the dash, i did know but whether it,s age or a brain freeze, i can,t remember.
From google:

How to reset the maintenance indicator, Honda Rancher 420: Press and hold the mode button and turn the ignition switch to ON. Continue to hold the mode button for 2 seconds and the maintenance indicator will flash twice. The service light is now reset.
