I have removed the neck end of the crook in mine, never use it.
Instead Ive added 2 extra foot of handle to it to I have a longer reach, after all Im a good few years older, and slower, than you.
And I then have a tube slung on thee quad for it o slip in..
Both!
Funny enough I only really use the neck end cause I'm mostly catching lambs but also the neck end is ideal if you need to walk a caught ewe somewhere.
Caught a lamb with the neck end..... had my fingers in the lag catch end..... lamb spun the wrong way..... little finger didn't get out the leg catch quick enough as it was twisted round
Foot end is ideal to hobble a ewe, slip two feet in it, one back one front, ewe is no going anywhere.
But yes, the leg latch is very good at holding onto anything in the crook, main reason I got one in the first place.
At least it didnt happen before or mid lambingTrouble is.... that won't work for the NZ double ended crooks we're all sporting now

Never thought of doing that..... great idea to hobble a ewe

I have an old plastic quad box sitting on the front RAPPA frame, which is permanently bolted onto my front rack. I have 2 cable cleats (for SWA cable) bolted onto the back of that box, bolted on one side so the cleat sits slightly open, if that makes sense. My Supercrook sits securely in those at all times, ready to grab when needed.
The cleats tend to get looser over time, so need replacing every two years. At a cost of just over 20p each, I can just about stand that.
That sounds like what I had in mind! Have you any pictures?
