Quality light chainsaw

Stihl MS200t or MS201t

Brilliant little saw. I got one to do hedge laying, needed to be small and light, and now I use it for everything. 12" bar and it will cut 12" oak no problem.

Only problem is Stihl wont sell you one without a tree surgeon qualification. They say its too dangerous as you can use it one handed, but if you use it two handed its no more dangerous than any saw. You can pick up good used ones on ebay easily...

Ive looked at getting a makita battery saw just for home use ,,quicker and quieter to log up a few bits .
They ideally want running with the 5ah batteries to get plenty of run time

What's the build quality like ? How do you find it for power ? Half tempted to get one

Sound enough , I did put a decent chain on as you couldn't sharpen the ones it came with , at that money you can throw them away if it breaks down .
I got the 62cc model which was £72 delivered , couldn't get a vat receipt out of them though .

Thanks ............
We'll have to have a look at the electric, the smaller petrol saws can be temperamental as they get older. Using Jonsered 2036 and 2137 but probably should go a size or two up, for the work they do ..........

If you just want one to use in the garden, then get a Titan from Screwfix for £50. I was very sceptical when I first tried one (at that price it was worth a gamble) because I'd just installed solar panels, so the electric was "free". You would not believe the work that saw has done in cutting up firewood over the last few years. It's now on it's second chain, first was sharpened until the teeth started to break at less than 100 thou long! It has a longish bar (maybe 18", certainly 16") & narrow chain, & works well on a saw horse because the long bar lets you cut easily through bundles of poles on the horse.

I have bought about 4-5 stihl ms 171 &181s.

If you want a petrol saw, def would recommend.

However as said on here; a battery saw would be my advice, it will be light, no noise; and you won't have to worry about 2 stroke mix and carbs.

I have 8 saws all husky and Stihl with my latest 2 being echo top handed saws as I won't touch anything from husky or Stihl with auto tune.

Definitely the way to go.
Really I used one for cutting up a willow ,so soft as !Cut well but was brand new!.Ideal for trimming some branches and would cut some bigger stuff but very narrow chain and would pinch easily and batteries running out was a pita!Cost was significant ,could buy a new engine saw for same money or less.

Fr Jones are selling husky 136 for £105 p!us vat.
I bought the equivalent saw 10 years ago for more than that. That is a bargain.

Take not for echo 5 yr warranty is for domestic use so watch what bank account you use to by it;)

Professional use 2 yr warranty I have a wee echo fine for my jobs I require it for.

Surprised the bad review on makita
Any makita saw that model number starts with DS is made by dolmar Sachs.
