Into second day with nose clips removed and calves weaned into their own pen .
Only one calf making some noise after managing to get the plastic out in the feed barriers and having suckled over night before separating. Went out of house late last night and no bellowing at all from calves , cows calling a bit .
100% success and a lot less stressful for
us and calves simple idea(y).

Cannot understand why anybody would want to bother with these things. If your weaning at the correct time the cow is almost dry and starting to get sick of her calf, and the calve should be getting most of its food from another source. I would rather 2-3 days bawling than up-setting everything by fighting calves trying to put weaning plates in there noses.

Not having 2 to 3 days bawling farming by a village saves a lot of phone calls and hassle , the calves have carried on eating and less stressed . Less work putting flaps in noses than getting one calf off gate or barriers , but that might be the lim.
Trialed here and they work all I can say must be us that are poor suckler cow keepers and not as clever as you :banghead:(y)

How long do you leave your calves on your cows? Or maybe how crappy are your cows that they tend to just dry up... And how wild that running them through just to clip a plastic ring in is a fight.

 3rd highest ppk in hfrs this year at annual suckled calf sale with females and top 5 in highest price for males. :wacky: Are nose flaps big in canada?
Quiet Weans are Canadian :p

But no, I wouldn't say they're big here. In small producers they're more common but most farms I know run at least 150-200 head and they're spread out all over the country side. Weaning is usually done right off pasture when they're loaded up to bring in for the winter and in some cases calves go straight to auction. Not usually the handling facilities to run cattle through in every pasture.

Iearn something new everydayo_O. Send them straight to auction and let someone else share the noise is best option i reckon, lol. I do think they bawl less if they cant hear there mothers and vice-versa .
