This is really sad, but why does nobody stand up for what they own any more? We seem to be breeding soft people these days, anyone says boo everyone jumps and runs, all flight, no fight.

Totally agree. too many afraid to protect their own or property. That said I lost a friend to a shooting after three thieves broke in to a family gathering and tried to rob everyone. Friend wasn’t the type to be robbed by anyone and grabbed one of them. Consequently got shot in the chest in front of his family and died. Early 50s is no age to go

They and their vermin friends know where you are. Wouldn’t be unusual to be threatened with “we will be back and burn the lot down”. That fear, and knowing the police won’t have your back if you defend yourself, family or property.

If you tackle them and hurt them, they will sue you and you will go to prison

Pigs will fly before that would happen.

Unless you go really over the top, you're well within your rights to defend yourself and your property by subduing and restraining an offender until the constabulary arrive. Just don't do anything stupid, like cut their finger off (they got away with it by the way).

Proportionate is the key response.

FIL got a reward for smashing a young guys hand as he left via an upstairs window having stolen several things.

Younger neighbour was all but imprisoned for wielding (not using) an air gun in a similar situation.

I've done quite a bit of checking including with the Fire Services all along the England / Wales border. There is no report of a fire at any stables this side of Christmas, so I am beginning to doubt the veracity of this report.
Why would somebody make up a story like that and then make it public .
If you have FB ,go onto Stolen Farm Plant and Rural Issues ,

Hi Lincs Lass,

This is where I originally found the story. There is nothing on either the West Mercia police or the Dyfed-Powys sites. There are other updates from today/yesterday/last week, but nothing about this incident. There is nothing on any Fire Brigade site which would cover any part of the Welsh border. The only report is on Facebook, which as we know, can be somewhat amiss.

Can anyone point to a report published by a reputable news agency?

UI understand your cautions about facebook, but not everything gets reported on emergency services and media web site. There was a chap who recently jumped off a viaduct next to some ground I rent, and the only place it was reported was Facebook.

Something of this magnitude would be reported throughout the media. In your example, the reporting of a suicide is completely different to an act of theft and arson. This alleged incident is a major criminal act and so one would expect it to be in the local, regional and possibly national press as well as news and media websites.

I've messaged the guy named and asked him direct about the incident as know body has seen or heard anything on news reports, media or any records of fire crews attendance.
He hasn't replied
