Stage Coach and Virgin can carry on running the west coastline at the same time as not honouring their obligations on the East Coast mainline. How can this be right? Yet another example of private greed winning out of public responsibility.

Not to worry. Corbyn should be settling in to No 10 any time soon. The friends of the Tory’s who got their hands on state assets, will shortly thereafter receive brown envelopes with windows in the mail.

Gullible as ever. The east coast mainline was a failure before in private hands. The government let it go to their mates for ideological reasons before the 2015 election. That’s why they didn’t check the adding up. You may say it doesn’t matter because you live in a cave. I say the country needs a rail network

What's your problem pal?
Where did I say it doesn't matter?
I hope Stagecoach and all those involved are roasted.

Well mate all over the country the privatised railways get away with an over expensive poor service. Prior to the sale of the east coast franchise it was operating adequately under public ownership. It could be argued that stagecoach overbid for the east coast to give credence to the government’s “private good public bad” dogma in time for the 2015 election. They are benefitting greatly on the west coast and never intended to honour their obligations on the east coastline. I think it’s the privatise everything Thatcherites who should be roasted.

East Coast under the state only made money because it never invested it back in to rolling stock,BR was shite and it's some stupid commie idea that the state can run anything properly, just look at the NHS/DVLA/DEFRA etc etc

Virgin Trains East Coast has amongst the highest customer satisfaction of any franchised rail operator. At the same time, Virgin Trains East Coast has continued to meet its contractual and financial obligations, including delivering around £525m to 29 April 2017 in premium payments to the taxpayer. This is around 30% more than the average monthly payments made by Directly Operated Railways when it ran the East Coast route.

Privatisation means that we, we taxpayers, get more money from the line than when government ran it directly? Isn't that proof that privatisation of the railways works?

What are you on about Rob? You can't bamboozle me with that shite. The Tories sold it off for ideological reasons and then it went tits up (again) in less than three years. #conservativeincompetenceknowsnobounds.

Anyone who can run a railway.
ok so that's not what i asked, instead of this infantile debate you like to have, add some facts with citations as to why the other 2 providers in the bidding process now cant take on the franchise?
