Ranching + farming news abroad: How far does it get?

It's been a while since I've posted (long story) but I'm wondering about the international news cycle and how far abroad some news has gotten. Are any news outlets in the UK picking up the story about the armed men occupying a wildlife refuge in Oregon to protest federal control of land they believe should be open to ranchers? Buzz words would be things like Ammon Bundy, militia, Malheur county etc etc

There has been huge coverage of it in the US, especially in my neck of the woods (I live close to it), but I'm curious as to how it's being represented, if at all, in other places and among the agricultural community abroad.

Fabulous! Will be sharing this with some friends here in Oregon. When I was in England last summer I had plenty of people asking me about American-ish type things like Donald Trump, so I was very curious if anything about this had peaked above the surface.

This link has an article that rings a little more true to the interests of small vs. big farming that I've seen here on the Forum. The Independent article you linked is quite the crash course in extreme right-wing American culture though!

I am signed in for several of the North American and Canadian beef news letters and Beefblogs, they always seem to be a bit ahead of here with their ideas.

Do you find that the ideas and issues translate well enough, or are the differences in land and government/business enough that what's true for America or Canada is not always true for the UK?

I did see a bit about the story. Something along the lines of the liberal 'right on' brigade saying that if they weren't white they would be classed as terrorists and shot/blown up at the first opportunity!
I noticed it because I'd seen a bit about the old man Bundy in the past, and his protests about his grazing.

Yes your ideas of what a cow should be like and capable of doing are what I like, plenty of good economic ways a dealing with problems, a cow is basically the same which ever side of the Atlantic.
Not into politics at all i am afraid.

That's a great way of putting it--maybe there's something universal about a cow, but it's the money and land tied up around it that get complicated. Probably why people tend to share and like pictures of their stock instead of copies of their receipts and deeds :)

Super interesting that's the side of the story you encountered first-- the racial tension is a huge part of the response, no doubt, and on the tip of everyone's tongue and Twitter feed over here. People have reacted in that way, and also mocking the militia guys as Yallqaeda and Yeehaw-dists and whatnot. The issue has split in a hundred different directions, but the popular reaction and media coverage hasn't delved much into the people who make their living around there and who the militia are supposedly standing up for. Lots of locals, including ranchers, have asked them to leave and are now getting harassed by the "patriots"
