It's not much of a story I dont think, last I heard they were really only contract killing a few on a small line alongside the main sheep one, dont think it is bread and butter to them. Shall endeavor to find out bit more anon.

Get in there & buy it !
Use the money that the extra transport costs would be to buy it.
If you don't there's no competition for st Merryn & your price will go one way .
This is our industry, we need to be the ones taking control & moving it forward .

They were contract killing over 30 months for dunbia, and all Celtic pride stuff, and a few odds and sods, 3 or 4 days a week I think. from what I under stand, they are just mothballing the cattle line. Bit of an arse, we'll have to take our home kills to Thomas' Wrexham now.

What would a plant like that be worth?
Would be an ideal one to buy doing both sheep and cattle.

Don't know until someone asks, they sound happy to carry on with sheep so I would suggest a partnership, farmers own cattle side & they carry on with sheep side.
There were 2 groups mentioned in the piece, Celtic foods & another firm? Maybe a consortium running it with farmers owning a percentage?
Have you any Welsh co ops that could expand?
Give Welsh NFU a kick up the backside & see if they can get a few groups together?
AHBD , I think they take enough off us they should be looking into things like this for us or as I've suggested before take a extra £1 /cow to fund buying into processing.

Yes because it’s that simple isn’t it

I’m not an idiot. Of course it’s not simple.

But doing nothing other than endlessly whining on a farmer dominated Internet forum won’t change anything.

A farmer consortium may buy the plant and make an astounding success of it. Or they may fail. I don’t know.

But they certainly won’t make a success of it if they don’t even try.
