to register a new heat meter expect up to a year before they get it sorted. and that's assuming they don't have to return the application for amendments
I just went through replacing a heat meter with the new OFGEM procedure, approved in 2 weeks. Greatly improved response from my previous experience.
After experiences with other brands, I am standardising on Kamstrup mains powered for the future, they may be a bit expensive but far less trouble.

My Itron heat meter has stopped recording heat used , the flow rate and temp are both down on what they should be but obviously showing something is happening . Any one experienced this or any ideas ?

Assuming that your sensors are still correctly positioned, it sounds as if its goosed.

I have had a call from Itron, N.B. this is

Itron Metering Solutions UK Ltd of Felixtowe, (not to be mistaken for Itron UK, where a very long suffering receptionist explained that they were an entirely different company selling monitors etc.)

On the matter of recalibration, they seem to be in discussions with the powers that be, about verification in lieu of recalibration, so we await the outcome .....

the itron has fault codes if anything is wrong, start by making sure the hot sensor reads higher than the cold sensor on menu 2 and it is showing a flow rate on menu 2

Thank you , Ive found the fault code menu , the issue it seems is following recent work done to pipe work an overly long t piece was fitted to house the outgoing temp probe , this resulted in that temp being lower than return ! Understandably the meter gave a fault suggesting the probes were connected wrong way round . The engineers have been back and re done the pipe work , the meter now reads again !
