Hello Everyone. Just costing out our new Barn and realised we cannot afford Ready mix Concrete ( We need 450 Cubic metres )
Can anyone give me an idea of Cement Sand and Ballast cost . We are buying a large Concrete mixer on a Trailer and have labour ready so it's just the materials.
Many thanks
Heather

20mm ballast is £38 inc vat pt delivered here and I can get cement at £4.50 per bag ,,a full pallet is cheaper
Weve got a tub mixer and mix our own. Ballest is £20 ton ex pit 5 miles away and the last pallet of cement was under £3 a bag but yesterday while in a different merchants I asked them how much for a pallet price of the same brand I've been using from else where and they quoted me £3.79.

Whether it's just increased everywhere or they were dearer I dont know.

It's all bought through a buying group, the last lot was from ridgeons this last quote was from direct from a independent merchant. I'm sure my buying group will be well priced next time I want some.

If you do your concreting in the normal traditional farming way, ie to minimum thickness of less than 4" over sh1t substrate you'll have a fab crazy paved yard in less than five years! Alternatively you can do it in a proper fashion in sections over well compacted substrate and it will last a lifetime. I see a lot of the former from the 70's and now folk have heavier machinery the latter should be considered.

Ballast was £17t delivered last year for an artic.

Could never find any cheaper cement than builders merchants, I tried a firm recommended on here, I think they were Welsh, and it wasnt a lot cheaper for an arctic load.

I never asked the merchants for a load delivered direct though, this would probably be the cheapest.

How big is the barn?
180 x 180?
Its 25 mtrs x 12 mtrs
I can buy cement for £3 a bag or £2.85 each for a pallet full from here and it's been OK for me
https://www.staxtradecentres.co.uk/products/346801/quinn-cement-ordinary-portland-cement.htm you do have to pick it up for that price though. The amount you want I would consider buying it loose. but have no experience of the price of that.

At 450m3 350kg per cube thats over 150 tonnes of cement. How big is the barn??
25 mtrs x12 mtra

If it’s just the floor you need 45 cube not 450
I used one of those on line calculators. Went for 1.5 mtr depth x 12 mtr x 25 mtr . As the other post said. I remember helping Dad in the 70s and yes Machinery heavier now so allowed for that. Big relief if I have it wrong !
