Reach flail mower

Looking at a new mower 8M reach almost exclusively mowing ditches, drainage board work etc. Obviously it will be axle mount

So looking for the good, bad and the ugly from:

McConnel 85 series
Bomford Buzzard Evo
Spearhead Twiga Flex
Shelbourne Reynolds 800 series

The only one I would go for is the Shelbourne. Purely because all the others are Alamo and the parts and after sales will be horrendous.

I know someone that had a Shelbourne and chopped it in after 18 months as it all started breaking up, welds where cracking and even just the steel cracking in places.

They all break. But the main concern woth just about anything is how quickly are you going again when it breaks.

Bomford would be my choice but yes, they do all need a massive kick up the arse when it comes to after service. Parts availability not really a problem, lovely machines to use with the ICS controls.

Why are these expensive machines breaking up? I mow backwards a lot, so am asking for trouble.. If mowing forward as intended surely they should last for years.

I’ve got two 8m buzzards here and we get on well with them, 2008 machine has done 12,000 hours + and a crack in the sub frame appeared this year. Parts from joe turner equipment on next day delivery. I can’t moan about them

Thanks.
A real mixed bag then.

No comments on spearhead, or not that great a long reach machine ?

Tried a shelbourne a couple of years ago but only a small 6 or7 meter machine, was impressed but nobody got back to me after the demo so I never got a price. I worry if not keen to sell what the back-up will be like??? Also not keen to make axle brackets for an older non-current tractor, at least that's what they said at cereals last week.

McConnel said they would make axle brackets for any tractor. Not sure on bomford & spearhead since they wasn't at cereals to ask
